Stefan was born in Lowell, Massachusetts in 1978. He grew up in the artist colony Rockport Ma. and began oil-painting at age 15. He studied art at Johnson State College in VT. from 1999 to 2004. Experimental and stylistically diverse, Stefan’s paintings are typically very colorful and can range from pointillism to faceted and mozaic-like. He invented a style called “Dollopism” which is an extreme impasto technique similar to impressionism. His paintings often contain archetypal forms inspired by plants, the human body and geometric forms. He likes his designs to exist right on the edge of being figurative so just when you feel you can grasp what you are looking at,it falls apart and reforms anew. Stefan resides in Rockport Ma. where his work can be seen at The Art Nook Gallery, which he runs with his partner and fellow artist Kathleen Miller.
